Christopher Ransom completed a Bachelor of Art degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1975, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at the Philadelphia College of Art in 1982 and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography at the University of Delaware in 1993. He has taught at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Senior Lecturer, Graphic Design Department) and the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware (Photography Department), and joined the School of Visual Communication Design faculty at Kent State in 1996. During his tenure at Kent State, Chris specialized in the planning and design of typographic and photographic curriculum and spearheaded the configuration of an applied photography major which earned accreditation from National Association of Schools of Art and Design in the spring of 2013. He is currently an Emeritus Professor.

Chris’s commercial photography has been geared to architecture and the urban environment with an emphasis in historic preservation. His work has been published in Graphis, Print, and Architecture magazines. In addition to numerous private collections, his photographs are represented in The Library of Congress, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas.

His work has been exhibited at the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia; The Maine Photographic Workshop; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Greene County Council of the Arts, New York; The University of the Arts, Philadelphia; The University of Delaware, Newark; Hebie Normal and Sichuan Universities, China; Kent State University School of Art Gallery and the Kent State University Museum.
